Hong Kong Island Stingrays Swim Club is a parent owned, and coach run swim club. Since its establishment in 1996, the Club has been operating under the governance of a self-perpetuating Board, whose members are nominated and approved for appointment at the regular Annual General Meeting. The legal status of the Club is that of a Hong Kong private company requiring financial statements and audits, and the submission of an annual return to the Companies Registry. The Club is also given a tax-exempt status due to the source of income derived predominantly from membership fee dues. Stingrays is a competitive swim team. Our home base is at the Hong Kong International School, Tai Tam Campus.

Our top athletes compete throughout the Asia and on the international stage at age group and senior level having competed at Hong Kong Nationals, Asian Championships, World Championships and other international events collecting many medals along the way for their efforts. Other team members compete at all levels from stingray’s spring meets to highly competitive meets with strict entry times. A supportive team atmosphere is encouraged throughout the training and competition process which has enhanced the success of the team as a whole.

HIS has a current membership of just over 170, ageing from 5–50+, and offers members many opportunities to be involved in swimming. We offer peoples the opportunity to learn to swim, training and competition at all levels from Club to International, training for triathlon, fitness and open water.

The Hong Kong Island Stingrays Swim Club program is dedicated to inspiring and empowering our student athletes to dream big and to strive for excellence in whatever they do. Our student athletes will develop vital life skills notably integrity, responsibility, commitment, teamwork, and sportsmanship. We will strive to encourage self-awareness in all stages of the training process and encourage athletes to take ownership of their preparation and performance. We aim to assist every swimmer to fulfil their potential, while at the same time, creating a safe and positive environment which fosters friendships and a strong sense of community. What they learn in the pool will help them grow at school and in life.

TEAM PHILOSOPHY

Hong Kong Island Stingrays Swim Club has and will remain true to its philosophy, which dates back to its inception. As the only parent owned swim club in Hong Kong, we emphasize the development of character in our swimmers. We are a process driven, goal oriented swim club with our primary focus being the swimmer’s individual growth and development. Respect for officials, congratulations to other competitors, encouragement to teammates, determined effort, accountability and mature attitudes are taught and expected. In collaboration with our athletes, parents and other support service providers our coaches hope to provide each and every swimmer an athletic journey that will define and shape their character into a better individual.
